At the intersection of visual studies, performance studies, and feminist studies, my research and experimentation focus on the history of feminisms in France and their importation to the United States under the cultural label of “French Feminism.” As an independent researcher, I pay particular attention to activist and autonomous researches. I examine the forms and manifestations of affects in art, thereby seeking to deconstruct the position of objectivity inherent in research. To this end, I employ a situated approach to curating derived from Donna Haraway’s theses (Situated Knowledges, 1988), drawing on references from affect, trauma, and feminist studies.

Arlène Berceliot Courtin is an artistic director, an independent researcher and a curator, teaching in the Master Art program at ESADTPM in Toulon, having previously taught at ESAAA — École Supérieure d'Art Annecy Alpes (2023–2026). Member of the professional networks IKT and AICA France (International Association of Art Critics).

After ten years as sales director for contemporary art galleries (Air de Paris, Galerie Allen, Michel Rein), she founded the curator-run space furiosa in 2018. Dedicated to art research and curatorial practice, furiosa develops an analytical and reflexive approach to the modalities of dissemination and the conditions of reception of curatorial work. Through an increasingly diverse set of self-initiated projects and collaborations, this research-driven endeavour elaborates new strategies of representation, taking economic logic and social attitudes as a basis for understanding contemporary artistic practices.

In 2019, she was a laureate of the French Institute's "Sur Mesure" residency program, focusing on the interrelation between the French New Novel and the work of American choreographer and filmmaker Yvonne Rainer. In 2022, she was a laureate of the Centre National des Arts Plastiques and Villa Albertine — Cultural Services of the French Embassy in the United States — for her research on Yvonne Rainer's engagement with French writings, this time from the perspective of feminist studies, with Monique Wittig as a central figure. In spring 2024, she received a Library Research Grant from the Getty Research Institute to continue this long-term research.

In fall 2024, she curated the 25th Pernod Ricard Foundation Prize, organizing the exhibition All the Messages Are Emotional (after Lauren Berlant), featuring works by Clémentine Adou, Madison Bycroft, Charlotte Houette, Lenio Kaklea, Paul Maheke, Mona Varichon, and HaYoung. At the artists' initiative, all nominees were exceptionally named co-laureates, and their works have joined the collection of the Centre Pompidou in Paris.

From October 2025 to February 2026, she presented Yvonne Rainer: A Reader, a collective portrait celebrating the life and art of Yvonne Rainer at the Centre régional d'art contemporain in Sète, as part of Viva Villa. She is currently working on the first reader devoted to the North American artist's contribution to the history of art in the 20th and 21st centuries, to be published by JRP|Éditions.
